On the Infimum of the Excitation Spectrum of a Homogeneous Bose Gas

چکیده
We consider a second quantized homogeneous Bose gas in a large cubic box with periodic boundary conditions, at zero temperature, and in the grand canonical setting (the chemical potential μ is fixed, the number of particles can vary). The interaction potential has a positive Fourier transform. We define the infimum of the excitation spectrum as the infimum of the grandcanonical Hamiltonian restricted to the subspace of total momentum k. We investigate its upper bound given by the expectation value at squeezed states. Our method can be viewed as a rigorous version of the usual Bogoliubov approach.

Conserving and gapless approximations for an inhomogeneous Bose gas at finite temperatures.
We derive and discuss the equations of motion for the condensate and its fluctuations for a dilute, weakly interacting Bose gas in an external potential within the self–consistent Hartree–Fock–Bogoliubov (HFB) approximation. Account is taken of the depletion of the condensate and the anomalous Bose correlations, which are important at finite temperatures. We give a critical analysis of the self...
متن کاملProperties of a Dilute Bose Gas near Feshbach Resonance
In this paper, properties of a homogeneous Bose gas with Feshbach resonance are studied in the dilute region at zero temperature. In the stationary state, there are condensations of atoms and molecules. The ratio of the molecule density to the atom density is proportional to na. There are two types of excitations, molecular excitations and atomic excitations. Atomic excitations are gapless, con...
متن کاملKinetic theory and dynamic structure factor of a condensate in the random phase approximation
We present the microscopic kinetic theory of a homogeneous dilute Bose condensed gas in the generalized random phase approximation (GRPA), which satisfies the following requirements: 1) the mass, momentum and energy conservation laws; 2) the H-theorem; 3) the superfluidity property and 4) the recovery of the Bogoliubov theory at zero temperature . In this approach, the condensate influences the...
متن کاملAnisotropic excitation spectrum of a dipolar quantum Bose gas.
We measure the excitation spectrum of a dipolar chromium Bose-Einstein condensate with Raman-Bragg spectroscopy. The energy spectrum depends on the orientation of the dipoles with respect to the excitation momentum, demonstrating an anisotropy that originates from the dipole-dipole interactions between the atoms. We compare our results with the Bogoliubov theory based on the local density appro...
متن کاملFinding the elementary excitations of Bose-condensed neutral atoms in a trap
We describe a method for nding the excitation frequencies of a Bose-condensed collection of trapped, neutral atoms. These excitations are the equivalents of the collisionless phonons in a homogeneous gas. Numerical results for a small assembly of trapped atoms are also presented. We discuss how one may be able to use these excitations as diagnostics of Bose condensates formed, for example, in e...
